About Me

I love cycling to the beach & go for walks with Irene.
Waiting for the day when we both retire & spend time together doing the things that we both enjoy most.

"You'll see that simplifying is not necessarily about getting rid of everything we've worked so hard for. It's about making wise choices among the things we now have to choose from. It's about recognizing that trying to have it all has gotten in the way of enjoying the things that truly do add to our happiness and well-being. So it's about deciding what's important to us, and gracefully letting go of the things that are'nt."

I’m Back!

Categories: 2006 | August 27th, 2006 | by shiokman | 2 comments

I’m so sorry for not updating for the past 3 weeks as I was feeling totally burnt out from all the blogging & baking. Situation at work also did not help at all & recently I have been actively looking for another job. Hopefully I can find one soon.

Today, I’m slowly beginning to feel energise again & so I decided to try making those soft pretzel that Rachel & Michelle likes to eat from “Aunt Annie’s” at Parkway Parade. Those snacks are actually quite expensive for a simple bread with toppings. So, I googled for recipes & found this particular one which makes use of a Bread Machine. I chose this recipe because we have one that we hardly use & it really saves me time & effort of kneading the dough. This Bread Machine took care of all the mixing, kneading & proofing of the dough and all I need to do is just throw all the ingredients in & set to “Dough”, that’s all….Great huh? especially when I don’t have much energy. :D

This is our Bread Machine

And these are “Uncle Eddie’s Soft Pretzels” with cheese, almonds & cinnamon/sugar toppings

Soft and chewy inside.

Here is the Recipe : Pretzels – Soft

Mushroom Soup

Categories: 2006 | August 6th, 2006 | by shiokman | 4 comments

The best mushroom soup that I’ve ever tasted was at the “Grand Shanghai” in the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. We were having the dinner buffet & I tell you, the mushroom soup tasted so good that I could’nt stop myself from going back for more & more & more……. The soup was so flavourful & the consistency was just right that it went so perfectly well with their freshly baked rolls. I ate so many bowls of soup & rolls that I only had little space left for the main course, but to me that was the best dish from the buffet spread.

Since then, I’ve been trying to search for a similar type of soup recipe until I stumbled upon these 2 great local food blogs : “Only Slightly Prententious Food” & “Eatzy Bitzy – A Green Serving”

I combined both of their wonderful recipes to create my own version of Mushroom soup. Thanks guys for sharing your great recipes.

Although mine did’nt taste as good as the one at the hotel, I’m quite satisfied with the result considering this is my 1st try. Also, seeing that Mich could eat 3 bowls of the soup after adding abit of salt, pepper & some sprinkling of Italian herbs, puts a smile on my face ;-)

Here’s my recipe, if you like to try it : Mushroom Soup.

Naan?

Categories: 2006 | August 5th, 2006 | by shiokman | no comments

I was surfing through the many wonderful local food blogs when I came across this : Bread Therapy by “Nibble & Scribble”. The owner of this great blog posted a lovely picture of her Sesame Flatbread together with her recipe. The 1st time I saw the photo, it immediately reminded me of naan – that Indian bread that goes well with curry like keema. Well, since I love to eat garlic naan, I decided to use her recipe to try & make my version of naan.

.

Mine turned out abit tough but edible which I guess is due to insufficient kneading on my part. But somehow Rach liked eating it plain without any curry, eventhough she later complained of headache after eating & chewing 2 pieces of garlic naan…..hahaha

Here’s my version of this flatbread : Naan
