About Me

I love cycling to the beach & go for walks with Irene.
Waiting for the day when we both retire & spend time together doing the things that we both enjoy most.

"You'll see that simplifying is not necessarily about getting rid of everything we've worked so hard for. It's about making wise choices among the things we now have to choose from. It's about recognizing that trying to have it all has gotten in the way of enjoying the things that truly do add to our happiness and well-being. So it's about deciding what's important to us, and gracefully letting go of the things that are'nt."

A serious New Year resolution this time!

Categories: 2005 | December 31st, 2005 | by shiokman | no comments

OK…………..I know this sounds all too cliche from me every end of the year, but this time round I’m really trying hard to make it stick.

New Year Resolution for 2006 :

LOSE WEIGHT!……ya..ya..laugh all you like. Director Peter Jackson is now my new inspiration – lost 32kg in 10 months!

If he can do it why can’t I???

Here’s how I figure I’m going to do it :

1. Post my weight every week on my blog to track whether I am losing it or not.
2. No more aerated drinks like pepsi, coke…..etc
3. No more snacks in between meals like potato chips, kachang, chocolates, keropok……Wow! this is going to be a tough one!
4. Cut down on fried foods like carrot cakes, roti prata, char kueh teow, french fries……Alamak! it’s getting tougher than I thought
5. Look at Peter Jackson’s photos when the going gets tough…..
6. Cycle long distances at least once a week
7. Take long walks at least 3 times a week
8. Do a bit of weights
9. Stand infront of the mirror at least once a week
10. Use Peter Jackson’s before & after photos as my computer wallpaper

That’s it, my 10 Golden Rules for 2006 :D

Poh Piah & Kueh Pie Tee Party

Categories: 2005 | December 26th, 2005 | by shiokman | one comments

This year Mum & Dad decided to invite Joyce, Robert & their family together with Ee Ee Shirley over for Christmas lunch. I guess they would rather enjoy people’s company than a quiet Christmas as always, but this comes with lot of hard work preparing the ingredients for the poh piah & pie tee.

Well as you can see, everyone enjoyed themselves tremendously especially Joyce & her family saying “so long never eat such shiok kueh pie tee & poh piah man!” And as usual Bryan never roll his poh piah but “wrap” it in a big bundle & wallop the whole package. :)

Bryan concentrating on his bundle

Ee Ee Shirley, Joyce, Albert, Jill & Sarah enjoying themselves

Albert : “Now Jill you gotta use both hands to wrap your poh piah!”

Robert : “Hey! leave some for me, I’ve only finished my 6th round!”

Irene : “Hmmm…when’s my turn, I’m getting hungry you know!”

Albert : “Leave me alone will you, can’t you see I haven’t finished yet!”

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Oh ya, forgot to mention that Rachel showed off her electric guitar playing skills to our guests but she only played the same song (Smells like teen spirit) from the group Nirvana. Nevertheless, she inspired Joyce, Jill & Michelle to try out the electric guitar. Rachel also played at Irene’s mum house later in the evening & everyone were like “Wow!”, especially Daniel & Andrew.

I too inspired Albert to go to Perth after showing him & the rest the videos that I took when we were there last year.

Albert : “Die die must go there!

Enjoyable Cycling

Categories: 2005 | December 26th, 2005 | by shiokman | no comments

On Christmas Eve morning, Irene & I decided to cycle to Bedok Reservoir & back via the Bedok Connectors. We started from the starting point across our home next to Saint Anthony’s Canossian Secondary School.

Starting Point

Direction & Distance

Connector leading to the PIE

At the edge of the PIE

Up the cycle ramp across the PIE

The other side of the PIE

Connector leading to Bedok Reservoir

Bedok Reservoir is on the other side of this track

Cycling along the track next to Temasek Polytechnic

Cross the bridge from the Poly to Bedok Reservoir

Cycling along the new track running parallel to the jogging track surrounding the reservoir

A view of Bedok Reservoir ontop of the hill

Way back home after cycling round the reservoir

Connector leading to back where we started

But we changed our minds & decided to cycle to Bedok South along the main road

This main road is leading towards the junction of Bedok North Ave.3 & Bedok North Road from the Reservoir. From there we cycled pass the Bethesda Church, cut through the flats & cycle along Bedok North Road next to the Sports Stadium. We crossed the main road under the MRT track & headed towards Bedok South market in front of Temasek JC to buy fresh Poh Piah skins for our Christmas makan with some guest.

Boy, what a workout. I have never sweat in such a long time & it felt good. Hope to do it as often as we can.

Look out 2006, the slim & mean machine is back again! 8)
