Singaporeans can now take a stroll from one park to another via a 10 kilometre-long connector. The connector links East Coast Park to Pasir Ris Park and is just one part of a 170-kilometre long network. The Park Connector Network programme provides additional recreational areas for activities like jogging, in-line skating and cycling. A total of 245 km of park connectors is scheduled to be completed by 2010.
So, Irene & I decided to check out this new Bedok Connector this morning. We started off from our home & walked along a jogging cum cycling track that leads us to the PIE just behind St. Anthony’s Convent. From here, there is a overhead bridge that is built for cyclist i.e. no stairs only rams that span across the PIE. It then joint to another track that leads us to the Bedok Reservoir.
Seeing that the reservoir looked beautiful, we decided to walk around it on the jogging track. As we were walking we saw that there was also a new track for walking, cycling & skating running parallel to the jogging track surrounding the reservoir. As it was more shady we side tracked onto the new path & found it to be a very nice place for a stroll. There is also a place where one can rent a canoe to row in the reservoir & we saw dragonboat rowers practising too. Looks like they are going to make this into a water sport area.
Next week, we might be trying the other way heading towards the East Coast Park via the new Bedok Connector as you can see from the map above.
As promised to Michelle, I’m trying to lose weight & this is one way of achieving my goal. Only wish that the weather here is not so humid but nice & cool as in Perth, then the park connectors will be a great place for walks & exercises.
